ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

We are a small cafe situated at the Hooker Road, near Governor’s Palace in Darjeeling, known popularly among all our patrons as ‘Hot Stimulating Cafe’. What struck Mr. Rumba K for venturing into the trekking business is better known to the Lord but the grapevine has it that the lure of the mountains and the frequent disappearance from the home had to be some how validated before his muse.

Rumba K, a colourful character with a distinctive mustache and flashing smile is a man of great many skills. He is a cook of excellence and the travellers all over the world including the Lonely Planet would swear by his momos. His tea is addictive and the pickle paste something to kill for. But the man likes wandering in the wilderness of the Eastern Himalayas, mingling his blood with the icy dew drops. “I am inspired by this mountains, they arouse me, make me aware of my being…..”, he smiles and promptly adds, “being in the mountains is the greatest just because it is there, ahhhh, it is better than everything!” So he is a philosopher too! ” No, he replies, it is the mountains that makes every one a philosopher. I am a road philosopher, Bob Dylan, mixed into Carlo Zarri, mixed into Tenzing Norgay… or perhaps a singing minstrel working on his guitar with stemming momos perched on the mystical slopes of Sandakphu.”

“I am not your guide instead I am your friend in travel. If you are interested in sharing my bit of joy and pain, I can take you along with me on a journey to the Heavens, to the great mountains of Kanchenjunga and to the holy Mayal Lyang, the Lepcha Shangri La. I am not a traveling agency either, I don’t have all the facilities, that what have already been offered by the Lord himself, but I have the key… to the unknown, to the gateway to the heavens.”

Well a statement like that may or may not bring in the hording millions marching with him to Sandakphu, Phalut or Dzongri but it would certainly bring in the brave and the adventurous, who are truly interested in challenging themselves and witnessing the real wild, the real Himalayas.

Good to know about your trekking gig, I always enjoyed Hot Stimulating Cafe momos and Rumba K’s eccentricity. The next time I am in Darjeeling I will certainly be in touch with you.
